Habitat for Humanity in El Salvador

Every summer our minister leads a team of NC teens and adults to El Salvador to help build houses with Habitat for Humanity. This evening they showed us some photos and spoke about their trip. Now my mind is on El Salvador, so I've gathered some photos from two summers ago when I made the trip. That was the only time I've ever travelled outside of the US, so it was quite an adventure for me and I loved it.

The children were adorable...

Here I am with Gladys, standing in front of her new home.

Her 420 square foot cinder block home may not look like much,

until you compare it with her old home in the photo below.

Great photos! I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Guatemala a few years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did!

Would love the chance to do something like that someday.

I can't help wondering what Latin Americans think of our lifestyles of excess when they have so little and are happy.

Laura,
I hope you get the chance! You are absolutely right about them being happy. When I came back, many people said "It probably really makes you appreciate what we have here", but for me it was the opposite - it made me think that we must be crazy to think that we need all of these material things.
