Red-bellied woodpeckers eating mealworms

Our resident pair of red-bellied woodpeckers are feeding babies & it doesn't take them long to go through a couple hundred mealworms...

Delia,
I'm doing great - just lazy about posting and reading blogs. Hope all is well with you, too!

Hi Susan!

I've missed so much blogging! How many mealworms to you think a RB Woodpecker can hold at once? 10? I saw a male Bluebird hold 6. Aren't they funny with worms?

I loved feeding mealworms to the birds last winter and spring and wish I would feed them now; however, I have a HOSP problem and too many other undesirables that bully... Maybe next winter will be different and you'll get an order from me.
